Migrant Groups Continue Crossing Texas Border Despite Intense Heat

Several groups of migrants crossed the Rio Grande, immediately surrendering to authorities. The largest of the groups, nearly 50 in total, surrendered to Texas Department of Public Safety troopers around midday on Sunday as Breitbart Texas looked on. Temperatures at the time hovered at 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

Texas Highway Patrol troopers are using innovative techniques to reduce the migrant flow at one of the busiest border crossing spots in the nation. In addition to plans to construct a floating border barrier in the area, the agency is using drones and its Tactical Marine Unit (TMU) to arrest migrant smugglers in mid-river in the Rio Grande. On Tuesday, the unit surprised one suspected smuggler who was caught unaware of the airboat’s swift approach.

18 Migrants Found in Sealed Tank Trailer near Border, Texas Man Arrested

A potential tragedy was averted in the small border city of Eagle Pass, Texas, when Maverick County Sheriff’s Office deputies stopped a tractor-trailer on Thursday. After noting suspicious behavior by the truck driver and noises coming from the trailer, the deputies searched the pneumatic tank trailer being towed by the driver and located 18 migrants sealed inside.

Texas Governor Orders Installation of Floating Border Barrier in Rio Grande

Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced his intention to install a floating barrier in the middle of the Rio Grande near Eagle Pass, Texas. The 1,000-foot-long structure, consisting of four-foot-wide buoys is a product manufactured by the Cochrane USA corporation. Abbot announced the installation of the barrier Thursday afternoon as he signed a host of border security bills in Austin.

Authorities on both sides of the border could not prevent the entry of a steady stream of asylum-seeking migrants hoping to surrender to the Border Patrol. Despite the placement of Conex containers, concertina razor wire, and a more significant border wall constructed by the State of Texas, the migrants stubbornly moved around or crossed over the impediments. As Breitbart Texas looked on, more than one hundred migrants breached the barriers earlier this week.

Exclusive Video: 141 Migrants Trapped, Rescued from Rio Grande Border Island in Texas

A large group of migrants found themselves stranded on an island in the Rio Grande when rising water levels and swift currents made their river crossing nearly impossible. Border Patrol agents eventually rescued the group of 141 migrants Sunday more than 20 miles south of Eagle Pass.  A Texas rancher captured video of the group of migrants hidden by trees and thick Carrizo cane on the island before the Border Patrol arrived on the scene.

Nikki Haley Calls for ‘Catch and Deport’ During Tour of Texas Border Hotspot

Nikki Haley, the former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations and former South Carolina governor received a firsthand account of how the current border crisis is impacting residents living along the Texas border with Mexico. On Monday, Haley met with law enforcement officers, private business owners, and border residents who gave the candidate their take on the continuing border crisis. Haley, accompanied by Representative Tony Gonzales (R-TX), began the border tour with stops in Del Rio and Eagle Pass, Texas, two of the busiest areas for migrant crossings in the nation.

Texas Police, Family in Desperate Search for Missing Corrections Officer

Police and family members are engaged in a desperate search for a missing 24-year-old correctional officer in the border community of Eagle Pass. Evelyn Guardado, 24, went missing shortly after 2:00 pm on Tuesday, January 31, after leaving the GEO Group Incorporated Correctional Facility where she is employed.

700 Migrants Cross In Single Group into Texas Border Town

A single group consisting of more than 700 migrants crossed the Rio Grande into Eagle Pass, Texas, and quickly surrendered to authorities. The group of mostly Cuban migrants entered the United States shortly before dawn on Thursday and were arrested by Border Patrol agents just north of the city. According to a source within CBP, the group is the largest single group of migrants to surrender at Eagle Pass.

EAGLE PASS, Texas — Over the course of an hour, a single group of nearly 600 migrants managed to cross the Rio Grande and surrender to Border Patrol agents. On Friday morning, the group of mostly single adult Venezuelan, Cuban, and Nicaraguan migrants were quickly sorted by nationality, gender, and family unit status. As buses arrived to transport the migrants to a nearby processing center, agents provided water and took basic biographical data from the migrants.

Within the course of a few short hours, nearly 700 migrants waded across the Rio Grande hoping to surrender to authorities and gain release into the United States. Breitbart Texas posted at several major migrant crossings and observed several large and small migrant groups surrendering to Texas Army National Guard soldiers, Highway Patrol troopers, and Border Patrol agents in and around the small Texas border town of Eagle Pass on Sunday.

Body of Missing National Guardsman Found in Rio Grande

EAGLE PASS, Texas — U.S. Border Patrol agents found the body of a Texas National Guard Soldier who disappeared Friday morning after rescuing two migrants. U.S. officials recovered the body and transported the decedent to the Texas bank of the Rio Grande Monday morning.
